Chitty (first name and dates unknown)[1] was an English cricketer who was active in August 1800 when he is known to have played for a Surrey team in a match at Lord's against a team representing the rest of England.[2] The match was played to odds of 14 to 12 and, reflecting this, the teams were called Fourteen of England and Twelve of Surrey. On the scorecard, Chitty is listed twelfth in the Surrey team batting order. He was dismissed for 0 in the first innings, bowled out by Lord Frederick Beauclerk, and was not out 0 in the second innings. He took one catch in the England first innings to dismiss Charles Reed. England won the match by either nine wickets or 51 runs, depending on whether Surrey were made to follow on after being over 100 runs behind on first innings.[2]

In the CricketArchive account, there is a footnote quoting G. B. Buckley in Fresh Light on Pre-Victorian Cricket, who cites the Morning Post saying: 'For Surrey, Winchilsea, Waller & Chitty vice (instead of) Mr Wells [i.e. James Wells], Harding & J Hampton; H Hampton played'.[3]
