Chinese Consulate-General, Chennai

The agreement for establishing the Consulate General of People's Republic of China in Chennai, the capital city of the state of Tamil Nadu, India wassigned by the prime minister of India Narendra Modi and Chinese premier Li Keqiang, during Modi's three-day visit to China in May 2015 [1] The desire of China for a consulate in Chennai had been expressed by the Chinese Ambassador to India, Le Yucheng, earlier. This consulate would help the many tourists from China to the city of Chennai, which has heritage tourism locations. It also supports business and cultural relations between China and Tamil Nadu. Moreover, there are 600 Chinese students in Tamil Nadu, more than in Delhi, and six Chinese industrial firms. [2]
