Children of Paradise – The Greatest Hits of Boney M. – Vol. 2 is a greatest hits album by Boney M. issued in June 1981 in Germany. The album wasn't commercially available but a Club Edition release only. Vol. 1 - Greatest Hits of Boney M. - was a 16 track Club Edition of The Magic of Boney M. - 20 Golden Hits, excluding four of the tracks, namely "Painter Man", "No Woman No Cry", "Oceans of Fantasy" and "Still I'm Sad", which instead appeared on "Children Of Paradise", all in their original album versions. The compilation also included their two 1980 non-album singles "Children Of Paradise" / "Gadda-Da-Vida" and "Felicidad" / "Strange" as well as the 1978 B-side "Dancing In The Streets" and the debut single "Baby Do You Wanna Bump". The front cover photo was taken in Jamaica where the group had just been filming a TV special for the upcoming Boonoonoonoos album in May 1981.

Additional information

Up to 1980, all Boney M. vocals had been sung by group members Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett together with Frank Farian. By 1980, Farian had hired vocal group La Mama (Cathy Bartney, Patricia Shockley, and Madeleine Davis) as backing singers for Precious Wilson's first album but since Farian also used them to do demos, their vocals were in some cases kept in the final mix on some 80s Boney M. recordings. The single "Gadda-Da-Vida" was one track which featured only La Mama and Frank Farian on all of the vocals. Rumours about a frosty relationship at the time between Farian and the group because of royalty disputes indicate that Farian's intention was to show them that he could do a Boney M. record without their help. Farian tried the same thing with "Felicidad" but the record company eventually declined to release it, so Liz Mitchell was called in to overdub the song with her lead vocal.
