Chicken Shack is a Michigan based restaurant chain. The first one was opened in Royal Oak, Michigan by John Sobeck and Iola Sobeck in 1956. It did so well, that a second Royal Oak location on Woodward Ave. opened up a couple of years later. Chicken Shack has always been a family run company, and continues that tradition to this day.
John and Iola's children Mark, Michelle, and Cheryl have always worked in the business, and their grandchildren Philip Sobeck and Neil Sobeck have very active roles in the business today.[1] Today, it has twenty one locations in the greater Detroit area. The Sobeck family is planning on expanding outside of Southeast Michigan, and eventually into Ohio.
