Cheryl B. Schrader

Cheryl B. Schrader (born c. 1962) is an American educator and seventh president of Wright State University as of July 1, 2017. Previously she was the chancellor of Missouri University of Science and Technology. Her presidency was announced on March 6, 2017.[1]

Early life and education

Schrader received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a concentration in computers and communications from Valparaiso University in 1984; and master's and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1987 and 1991.

Career

Schrader began her teaching and academic career at the Notre Dame during the early 1980s, while she consulted for McDonnell Douglas Astronautics. During the early 1990s, she also consulted for Chimera Research while continuing to teach at Notre Dame.[2] After briefly teaching at Rice University during 1991, she became a tenured professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio and served as associate dean. In 2005 she became professor and dean of the College of Engineering at Boise State University. In January 2011 she became associate vice president for strategic research initiatives in Boise State's Division of Research and Economic Development.[3]

She is a past president of the IEEE Control Systems Society,[4] and a member of ABET, Inc. Accreditation Commission.[5] She received Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring from the White House (2005);[6] the IEEE Education Society Hewlett-Packard/Harriett B. Rigas Award;[7] and the Idaho Women Making History Award[8]

In 2014 she was selected an IEEE Fellow "for leadership and contributions in engineering education".[9]

Personal life

Schrader is married to the chief legal counsel for the Idaho State Board of Education and has two children.[10]
