Charlotte Verity (born 1954) is an observational painter who draws on the natural world for her motifs. She lives and works in London, and her paintings arise from the immediate surroundings of her garden. They are painted on the spot, either outside or in the studio.

A monograph on her work, Charlotte Verity was published by Ridinghouse, in November 2016.

She made her first series of lithographs with Nutmeg Editions in London, 2017.[1]

Exhibits

Verity attended the Slade School of Art from 1973 to 1977 and won The Slade Prize in her final year.[2] In 1978 she lived and worked in Italy on the Boise travelling scholarship.[3] Since graduating she has had solo shows at Anne Berthoud Gallery (1984, 1988, 1990), with Browse and Darby (1998, 2002, 2007)[4] and Purdy Hicks (2016), all in London. Since 1980 Verity has been a regular exhibitor at the John Moores Liverpool Open, the Whitechapel Open and theRoyal Academy Summer Exhibition.[2]

She has been artist in residence at Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne (1995), and throughout 2010 was artist-in-residence at The Garden Museum.[5][6][7] Verity has contributed to numerous group exhibitions, both nationally and internationally.[8] Since 2001 she has taught at the Royal Drawing School in London. Her work is in many public collections including the Arts Council Collection, UK; Deutsche Bank; the Garden Museum, London; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; Sir John Soane's Museum, London; Tate Education, London; and University College London.[9]

Personal life

Verity is married to the artist Christopher Le Brun[3] and they have three children.[10]
