Sidney Charles Mullins OBE (born October 1952) is a British businessman, and the founder of Pimlico Plumbers, London's largest independent plumbing company.[2]

Early life

Sidney Charles Mullins was born in October 1952,[3] the son of a factory worker father and a bartender and cleaner mother.[2] When he was born, they "lived in a couple of rooms in Camden", before moving to the Rockingham Estate in London's Elephant and Castle, where he grew up, and left school at 15 with no qualifications.[2][4][5]

Career

Mullins was apprenticed to a local plumber at age 15, and started his own business in 1979, operating from a basement in Pimlico.[2]

He is known for his collection of plumbing-themed license plates, used on the company's vehicles, and perhaps worth £1.5 million.[4]

As of September 2018, Mullins has an estimated net worth of £70 million.[1]

Politics

Pimlico Plumbers donated £22,735 to the Conservative Party in 2015, and Mullins donated more than £48,000, in the two years to July 2017.[2] He was a business adviser to David Cameron and George Osborne, and has been a vocal critic of Brexit.[5][6]

In January 2018, Mullins announced that he would no longer be a Tory Party donor, and declared his candidacy as an independent at the London mayoral election, 2020.[2] In March 2018, Mullins said he would financially support the Liberal Democrats to support their campaign to prevent Brexit.[7]

Personal life

Mullins famously owns three Bentleys: a Mulsanne (2015), a Continental GT (2016) and a Bentayga (2017) as well as a Porsche Cayenne. His favourite holiday destination is Dubai, he is also a regular visitor to Marbella in Spain where he owns 2 villas. [4]

He divorced his first wife, Lynda. He has since married Julie Anne Morris.[8][4]

His sons Scott, a director, and Samm, a plumber who manages Pimlico Plumbing & Heating Supplies, work for the company.[9][10]
