Charles Hopton

Charles Ernest Hopton[1] was Archdeacon of Birmingham from 1915 to 1944.[2]

Hopton was born on 13 February 1861,[3] educated at Clifton College, Hereford Cathedral School and St John’s College, Cambridge[4] and ordained in 1885.[5] After curacies in Selly Oak and Redditch[6] he was Vicar of Stretton Grandison[7] with Ashperton;[8] St Stephen’s,[9] Worcester;[10] and then Moseley before his Archdeacon’s appointment.

He died on 20 December 1946.[11]
