Chantel Taleen Jeffries[2] (born October 1, 1992) is an American DJ and model. She released her debut single, "Wait", on May 2, 2018, under Universal Music Group's label 10:22 pm.[3][4][5] The song peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

Early and personal life

Jeffries was born on October 1, 1992, in Coronado, California. Her parents are Colonel Edward Jeffries and Kathleen Jeffries. She grew up with her younger brother in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Her father worked for a military training company and is a Marine Corps veteran. Her family was always on the road traveling from one place to another due to her father's work. Jeffries graduated from Massaponax High School in Virginia, and attended Florida International University where she studied Communication Arts and Fine Arts.

She is fairly well known for an incident involving Canadian singer Justin Bieber in 2014, with whom, it was speculated, she was dating at the time.[6] She is also rumored to have dated a few other high profile individuals such as Justin Combs (the son of Hip-Hop mogul Sean "P Diddy" Combs), NFL wide receiver Desean Jackson, and most recently the musician The Weeknd in 2018.[7]

On January 23, 2014, Jeffries was in the passenger seat of a vehicle being driven by Justin Bieber when he was stopped by police and arrested in Miami Beach, Florida. Bieber was charged with suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), driving with an expired license, and resisting arrest without violence.[8][9] Jeffries was not charged or arrested. Although she subsequently became the subject of much rumor and speculation in the tabloid press regarding her "criminal history", which later proved to be non-existent.[10]

Music career

2018–present: Calculated Luck

Shortly after being signed to the Universal Music Group label, 10:22 pm, it was announced that Jeffries would release her debut single on May 4, 2018.[11] The track features American rappers Offset and Vory, who came by and heard the track and wanted to "lay some melodies."[12] "Wait" was officially released on May 4, 2018. A vertical music video for the single was released on June 5, 2018.[13] Jeffries released her second single, "Both Sides", on July 13, 2018, featuring Vory.[14][15] A third single was released on August 10, 2018, called "Better".[16] It features American rapper BlocBoy JB and Vory.
