Chandausi is a city and a municipal board in Sambhal district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.

The original name of the city was "Chaand Si", meaning "moon-like" (in Indian poetry the moon is considered to be beautiful). Actually, Chandausi is a large town which is approximately 45 km away from the city of Moradabad. It has an average elevation of 284 metres (603 feet). It is 187.5 km from New Delhi. [1][2]

On 5 September 2017 it was declared by Government that the district and session courts for Sambhal District will be established in Chandausi. Also, the district headquarter of Sambhal district is established in Bahjoi of Chandausi Tehsil.

Demographics

As per provisional data of 2011 census, Chandausi had a population of 1,14,254 out of which males were 60,238 and females were 54,016. The literacy rate was 72.63 percent.[3]

Transport

Chandausi Junction is situated on Aligarh - Bareilly Railway Route. It is also on a loop line of Lucknow - Moradabad Railway Route. A major railway station Moradabad junction is just 30 mins away from here via railway. line.[4]

Bus services from Kaushambi Bus Depot, Gaziabad to Chandausi Depot under Uttar Pradesh State Transport Corporation UPSRTC. Buses are also available from Anand Vihar, Noida City Center and Greater Noida to Chandausi.

The climate of the area is similar to that of the Indo-Gangatic plain, with hot dry summers and cold winters and an average of 35 inches of rainfall.

Temples and Mosques

There are many temples in Chandausi.

Bade Hanuman ji mandir is one of the oldest temples of the city. It is situated at Hanumanghari near Sita Ashram playground. It is the temple of Hanuman ji and is 400 years old. A huge crowd worships in this temple every Tuesday and Saturday as these days are the days of Lord Hanuman. The temple has idols of Shri Ram parivar, Shri krishna Parivar, Shiv Parivar, Goddess Durga, Lord Bhero ji, Lord Sai Baba etc. It is situated on a small hill (Teela) and has a cave under the Hanuman ji statue. This cave runs through a large area of the city.

Badi Masjid is one of the oldest mosques of the city. It is situated at F.R. Road near fountain chowk. There are many mosques which are ancient i.e. Jama Masjid near fish market, Lal masjid, Moti masjid, kacheri wali masjid, noori masjid, Sheikho wali masjid, Badi masjid Raaz street.
