History

The church began meeting on September 20, 1970, with six people present at Klein Intermediate School under the founding pastor, Rev. Robin Guess. As the congregation grew larger and needed more space, they moved services to St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church. On October 1, 1972, the church was officially chartered with 230 members by a motion from Gordon Meece. The first permanent location for a Worship Center / Education Wing was 12501 Champion Forest Drive which was officially acquired February 25, 1973. In April 1978, Rev. Damon Shook began his nearly three decades of service as pastor of the church. In 1991, the church purchased 49 acres (200,000 m2) at the corner of Stuebner-Airline and Strack Road. The current worship center at this location opened in 2002. In 2007, after Dr. Shook's retirement and a long pastoral search, Dr. David Fleming joined the church as senior pastor.[1] In 2013, the church began their North Campus meeting at the Klein I.S.D. Multipurpose Center with worship in English. As of April 2018, Champion Forest is one church in 4 locations: Champions, North Klein, Conroe, and Jersey Village.
