Chaetodon rainfordi is a species of marine angelfish with a range restricted to Papua New Guinea, the Great Barrier Reef and Lord Howe Island.[1] Greater than 50% of its distribution is within the protected waters of Australia's Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.[1] There has been a significant population decline of C. rainfordi in the Great Barrier Reef due to extensive coral loss, its primary food source.[1] It inhabits coastal and offshore reefs at depths of 5–20 metres (16–66 ft).[1]
