Central Coast Grammar School is a K–12, co-educational, independent, nondenominational, private day school located in Erina Heights, New South Wales, Australia. The school is situated on a large 17-hectare campus.

History

The school was established in 1985 with 165 pupils enrolled and a teaching staff of 19. The first school assembly took place at Avoca Beach Theatre as building work was completed.

In 1988, student numbers exceeded 1000 and CCGS was structured into three sub-schools: Junior School (K-6), Middle School (7-9) and Senior College (10-12).

William Low replaced Richard Lornie as headmaster in 2009.

The school houses are named after native Australian flora. There are four houses:

  • Grevillea (red)
  • Acacia (yellow)
  • Ironbark (blue)
  • Nicholii (green)

Additions

In 2009, the school opened a new multipurpose sports field. The full-sized, floodlit, all weather field has a wet-dressed playing surface suitable for a variety of sports codes.[2]

A new library and lecture theatre was opened in 2010. Facilities include four tutorial rooms, two reading pits and audiovisual and photocopying facilities. The complex houses a state-of-the art technology laboratory with 36 terminals, four online public access terminals and wireless access for notebook computers.

In early 2012, the school's Science Block was finished, including more than ten science rooms equipped with gas taps and rubber flooring.

In 2014, a new Performing Arts Centre for the school was opened. It includes an elevator, 10 private rehearsal tutoring booths, two ensemble rooms, a recording studio, a kitchen and seven classrooms. It also includes a large auditorium with state of the art audiovisual and lighting systems, which has 759 seats.

In late 2017, the B-Block, which contained the history and English classrooms, was refurbished. The refurbishments included the extension of the building into the existing year 10 yard, as well as the installation of new furniture, facilities and higher quality classrooms. The refurbishments also introduced a new "senior space" in which senior students (10-12) can relax, as well as a new staff room for the History department and an elevator to the second floor.
