Celtic Media Group provides publishing, printing and pre-press services. [1] It publishes several newspapers and provides printing services to groups including Trinity Mirror's Irish operation and the Racing Post. [2]

Since 2012, Celtic Media Group has been owned by a management team headed by chief executive Frank Mulrennan and finance director Frank Long. [3] The team took full ownership of the business, which had been owned by Scottish-based investors including Dunfermline Press. [4]

In 2017, Independent News and Media (INM) proposed an acquisition of publishing arm of Celtic Media Group. The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and the Consumer Protection Commission approved the acquisition. However, INM and Celtic Media Group abandoned the acquisition prior to a ruling on the acquisition by the minister, with 100 jobs now being reported to be at risk. [5] The Sunday Times said that the reason for the deal not progressing was a clause that required Celtic Media Group to maintain 24 journalist jobs indefinitely. [6]

In 2017, Celtic Media Group said it was reliant on short-term bank funding and had to sell a property in Cavan to generate funds. [7]

In 2018, Celtic Media Group said the viability of its print business is at risk due to declining print volumes and rising costs. The firm warned that unless the working week was cut by five hours, four workers risked losing their jobs in alternative cost cutting measures. [8]
