Casar Jacobson is a disability and gender equality rights activist and a UN Women Youth Champion.[1][2][3] Casar is Former Miss Canada, Miss Global Peace and Deaf International Entrepreneur.[4][5] She was the winner of Miss Canada Globe 2012/2013.[6][7][8][9]

Early life

Casar is of Norwegian-Canadian descent. She was born in Austria, lived in Norway and Germany, where she graduated from university with a Master's Degree in Genetics.[10] She moved to Canada at 21.

Born hard of hearing, she lost her right ear's hearing and subsequently became legally deaf in her twenties. She utilizes CSL and ASL sign languages.

Pageant career

Casar competed in several Canadian pageants.[11] In 2012 she was selected as "Audience Favourite" in Miss Universe Canada.[12][13][14][15] In 2013 she won the title Miss British Columbia 2012/2013.[4] After that, she became Miss Canada 2013.[16] She traveled to Albania to compete in the Miss Globe pageant, in which she was awarded the title of "Miss Peace".[17]

Disability rights activist

Having lost her both ears' hearing, Casar became Deaf & Disability Activist and Gender Equality spokesperson for UN Global Compact Canada.[18] Working with the United Nations entity as a Youth Champion and Planet 50/50 champion on Women Empowerment, Gender Equality, and a sub-sector in disabilities, deaf culture and entrepreneurialism she also is involved in women's organizations and projects for women with disabilities worldwide.[19][20] Jacobson became the first deaf speaker at The UN Observance of International Women's Day 2017, participating in a panel discussion with Anne Hathaway, Bjarni Benediktsson, Ravi Karkara, Phumzile Mlambo and Lakshmi Puri of the United Nations, as well as António Guterres and Amina Mohammed.[21][22][23][24][25]

As a deaf activist and women entrepreneur, Casar has been involved in projects with business investors on Dragons' Den, collaborated with Adam Gingsberg, Martin Short, Masha Brueggergosman, and Jenna Talackova backed by women's activist lawyer Gloria Alred.[26][27] She has also taken part in the Steve Harvey show and has been featured in the official music video of the Trinidad & Tobago artist Tennille Amor I Am A Girl and K'naan's Wavin' Flag music video, performing in Sign Language.[28][29]
