Captain Obvious

Captain Obvious is a term used in American English idioms of the 20th and 21st centuries. The idioms are usually a jocular or sardonic rejoinder to a statement considered to be stating the obvious. For instance, "Thank you, Captain Obvious", in response to some statement, would be a sarcastic way of saying "The statement you have just made is superfluous, since the state thereby described was already apparent to all present".

A fictional character called Captain Obvious was used in television commercials for a hotel booking service, beginning in 2014. The character was created by the marketing firm Crispin Porter + Bogusky, is portrayed by Brandon Moynihan, and appears in some internet memes.[1][2][3][4]
