The Canadian Journal of Bioethics (French: Revue canadienne de bioéthique) is an online, peer-reviewed academic journal hosted by the Bioethics Program at the School of Public Health, Université de Montréal (Québec, Canada). To maximize accessibility, the journal is diamond open access, uses Open Journal Systems, and all texts are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.[1] The journal is a member of COPE[2], and the editors follow the recommendations and procedures outlined in the COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.[3]

The journal uses a continuous publishing approach, and texts are published as they are ready in open issues, or in special issues that group together texts on particular themes.

Scope

The aim is to publish thought provoking theoretical, conceptual and empirical bioethics research in diverse forms (e.g., articles, commentaries, reviews, creative works, case studies) and from across the full range of specialties in the field (e.g., clinical ethics, medical ethics, research ethics, public health ethics, technology ethics, professional ethics). Texts are published in their language of submission, in French or English, with cover material translated.

Organization

The editor-in-chief is Bryn Williams-Jones (Université de Montréal) who, with a team of graduate students, founded the journal in 2012[4][5]; originally called BioéthiqueOnline, the journal published between 2012 and 2017 (archived on Papyrus[6] and Érudit[7]), before being renamed in 2018.[8] The Editorial Board is largely composed of Canadians, but also has editors from the United States and France[9]. The journal is supported by an international Editorial Advisory Board with members from Canada, the United States, Israel, Europe and Australia[10]
