Cameron Brate (born July 3, 1991) is an American football tight end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Harvard.

Early life

Brate grew up in Naperville, Illinois and attended Naperville Central High School. As a freshman, he was cut from the A team and was a starting wide receiver on the freshman B team.

Professional career

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Brate was signed by the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He was released by the team on August 20, 2014 and was signed to the practice squad the next day. On November 25, 2014, Brate was promoted to the active roster.[1] On September 15, 2015, he was released by the Buccaneers.

New Orleans Saints

On September 16, 2015, one day after his release from the Buccaneers, the New Orleans Saints signed Brate to their practice squad.[2]

Return to the Buccaneers

Brate returned to the team on September 22, 2015, after being on the Saints' practice squad for a week. He played in 14 games with four starts in the 2015 season recording 23 receptions for 288 yards and three touchdowns.

In 2016, after the departure of Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Brate became the starting tight end for Tampa Bay. He played in 15 games with 10 starts recording 57 receptions for 660 yards and eight touchdowns before being placed on injured reserve on December 27, 2016.[3] Among NFL tight ends, Brate converted the highest percentage of red zone targets into touchdowns in 2016.[4]

On February 28, 2017, Brate re-signed with the Buccaneers.[5]

On March 12, 2018, Brate signed a six-year, $41 million contract extension with the Buccaneers.[6]
