Cabbage are an English indie rock band, formed in 2015 in Mossley, Tameside.[1][2][3] They are composed of co-frontmen Lee Broadbent and Joe Martin, guitarist Eoghan Clifford, bassist Stephen Evans and drummer Asa Morley. The band are currently signed to Skeleton Key Records, an independent label set up by James Skelly of The Coral who has also produced their output.[4]
Prior to forming the band, Martin performed around Greater Manchester as a performance poet.[5] Some poems went on to form the basis of Cabbage songs, including Dinnerlady.[6] Broadbent was previously the drummer in Where's Strutter?[7][8] and Brahma-Loka whom Bill Ryder-Jones produced tracks for at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool.[9][10] guitarist Eoghan Clifford was previously the drummer in Mossley band The Fayre, a one time member of Twisted Wheel with bassist Stephen Evans and also worked with local singer-songwriter Danny Mahon.[11][12][13] Drummer Asa Morley has previously played with Storytellers.[14][15] Bassist Stephen Evans had previously fronted Stephen Evans and the Planets[16] and played guitar in the "electro-inspired" trio Mary Joanna with his then fiance Mary Joanna Coogan and her brother Will Coogan (who are the son and daughter of radio presenter Martin Coogan and nephews of the comic Steve Coogan). The band then morphed into ZX+, with neither Coogan involved [17][18] Evans also plays guitar in Push Drucken with music journalist and singer John Robb on vocals.[19]
The band released a collection of their early EPs, called Young, Dumb and Full of..., in January 2017.[20]
The band put out their debut album Nihlistic Glamour Shots in March 2018 which charted at 21 in the UK Album Charts.
