Bruce F. Houghton is a New Zealand volcanologist. He was born on 29 April 1950 in Auckland, New Zealand. He was a student under Professor George P. L. Walker (a James Cook fellow) at Auckland University (University of New Zealand).

Houghton is currently the Hawai'i State volcanologist and the Gordon A. MacDonald Professor of Volcanology at the University of Hawai'i.[1][2] In August 2017, Bruce was awarded the highest award in volcanology, the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior's Thorarinsson Medal. He is recognized as "a giant of volcanology".[3]

Houghton is married to Alison, and they have two children.
