Brooklyn Steel is a 1,800 capacity music venue located in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, United States. Construction for the venue began in July 2016 and it officially opened on April 6, 2017 with a five-night run of sold-out concerts from American rock band LCD Soundsystem. The venue contains a main floor, a balcony, and three bars. The name of the venue was inspired by its "industrial look" and the fact that the building was originally used as a steel manufacturing plant. Much of the steel from the original building was repurposed for facilities in the venue.[1][2]

Critical reception

Upon the venue's opening, Grant Rindner of Brooklyn Magazine wrote that it was "easy to see Brooklyn Steel quickly becoming yet another Williamsburg cultural beacon".[3] Media also compared the venue to Manhattan's Terminal 5, which is operated by The Bowery Presents like Brooklyn Steel. Writing for Gothamist, Scott Heins described both venues as "effectively one big tall box" and commented that Terminal 5 appeared to serve as a guide for Brooklyn Steel's construction.[4]

Performers

Since the venue's official opening in April 2017, various musical acts of a variety of genres have performed at the venue including LCD Soundsystem, PJ Harvey, Laura Marling, Goldfrapp, Two Door Cinema Club, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Marian Hill, Pixies, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Ween, Perfume Genius, The Decemberists, Nao, and Animal Collective.[5][6]
