BroadSoft, Inc. is a global communication software and service provider that was purchased by Cisco Systems in 2018. It partners with more than 600 carriers and 25 of the world’s 30 largest service providers in 80 countries.[2][3] The company provides the building blocks for service providers to build cloud-based communications services such as voice, video, web conferencing and now team messaging and contextual services.[4] BroadSoft was founded in 1998 and completed its initial public offering public in 2010, and is headquartered in Maryland.[5]

Background

The company was founded by Michael Tessler and Scott D. Hoffpauir in 1998.[6] Prior to Broadsoft, Tessler worked at several telecommunications manufacturers and later joined Celcore, a wireless startup. Following the acquisition of Celcore by Alcatel, Tessler and Hoffpauir, an executive at Alcatel, decided to branch out on their own and create BroadSoft. BroadSoft then received $5 million in Series A round funding as a pre-startup.[7]

As a cloud communications technologies provider for over 20 years, BroadSoft grew organically and through strategic acquisitions to position itself as the leader in next-generation hosted communications solutions.[8]

Awards

In 2013, the company received Frost & Sullivan 2013 New Product Innovation Leadership Award for its hosted unified communication platform product.[37] In the same year, thanks to its unified communication platform, UC-one, it won the People's Choice Stevie Award in the 11th American Business Award Competition. UC-one was listed in "Favorite Telecommunications Service" list.[38]
