Brian Tarquin (born December 2, 1965, New York) is an American jazz musician, composer, guitarist, author and music producer.[1][2][3][4]

Tarquin owns a recording studio called Jungle Room Studios near New York[5] and the record label BHP Music/Guitar Trax which specializes in guitar music.[4]

Music career

Training

Tarquin obtained his musical training from Mannes School of Music (New York), The State University of New York (New Paltz) and Center for the Media Arts (New York).[3]

Early years

Tarquin worked part time at several recording studios (including New York's Electric Lady), and later landed a steady job as a sound engineer for Look & Company. He moved to Los Angeles, where he engineered sessions at Powerhouse Studios and held short term jobs with Restless Records and Virgin Records. In 1995 Tarquin landed a record deal with the MCA-distributed Jazz Inspiration label, and the following year he released his debut album, a smooth jazz effort titled Ghost Dance.[3] In the 2000s Tarquin formed a band called 'Asphalt Jungle' and in 2002 released an album called 'Electro Ave'.[6][3]

Further career

In 2006 Tarquin launched his own record label called BHP Music/Guitar Trax and released personal projects and a series of Guitar Masters compilations. In 2012 he opened a company called TV Film Trax, which he sold later to a private investor.[7]

Tarquin produced the 'Guitar Masters Series' from his studio the Jungle Room Studios and it featured guitarists Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, Jimmy Page, Steve Morse,[8] Gary Hoey, Santana, Billy Sheehan, BB King Frank Gambale, Leslie West, Chris Poland, Hal Lindes, Joe Satriani and others.[9][4]

Tarquin has sold 150,000 albums and his works include the theme music for MTV's Road Rules, All My Children, The Watcher, among others TV shows.[5] Tarquin has also given music for (some) episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, TMZ on TV, America's Next Top Model, ABC's- Making The Band, Extra, Alias.[10][11]

Magazine column

Tarquin wrote a regular column for the Premier Guitar magazine magazine titled "Guitar Studio." The column focused on studio techniques for musicians and recording engineers. Tarquin also conducted interviews of musicians for the magazine.[3][21][22]

Half the financial proceeds of 'Guitars for the Wounder Warriors' are directed to the charity organization Fisher House Foundation. Fisher House Foundation is known for providing homes where military and veterans’ families can stay when a family member is undergoing medical treatment.[24][25]
