Brian Hartzer (born 1967)[1] s an Australian business executive who currently serves as the Managing Director and CEO of Westpac.[2]
Education
He graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in European history.
Banking career
Hartzer began his career as a consultant at First Manhattan Consulting Group (FMCG), working in New York, San Francisco and Melbourne. Hartzer concluded his time at FMCG as a Vice President (Partner).[3]
After his time with FMCG, Hartzer spent 10 years at Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ), in a number of roles including:[4][5]
- Managing Director, Consumer Finance - September 1999 - March 2004
- Group Managing Director, Personal Division - 2004 - 2008
- Chief Executive Officer, Australia - 2008 - 2009
Hartzer then joined Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Group's Ulster Bank as CEO UK Retail and Wealth Management.
After 2 years with RBS, Hartzer returned to Australia. In November 2014, he was announced as the CEO to succeed Gail Kelly as CEO, Australian Financial Services, at Westpac Group in February 2015.[6]
