Brett Kinneman (born August 28, 1996) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

Career

Kinneman attended West York Area High School in York, Pennsylvania, where he played baseball.[1] As a senior in 2015, he pitched to a 5-0 record and 2.33 ERA in 33 innings along with batting .278.[2][3] He was not drafted in the 2015 MLB draft and he enrolled at North Carolina State University to play college baseball for the NC State Wolfpack.

In 2016, as a freshman at NC State, Kinneman batted .296 with six home runs, 33 RBIs, and a .526 slugging percentage in 42 games, 34 which were starts.[4] After the season, he was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman team[5] along with being named to both Collegiate Baseball Magazine's and Louisville Slugger's Freshman All-American teams.[6][7]

As a sophomore in 2017, Kinneman compiled a .282 batting average with ten home runs and 41 RBIs in sixty games (57 starts).[8] That summer, he played in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Cotuit Kettleers[9] where he struggled, batting only .207 with a .645 OPS in 121 at-bats.[10]

In 2018, as a junior, Kinneman started all sixty of NC State's games, batting .274 with 17 home runs and 61 RBIs.[11] He was named to the All-ACC First Team.[12]

Kinneman was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the seventh round of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft[13] and signed with them for $215,500.[14] He made his professional debut with the West Virginia Black Bears[15] and spent the whole season there, batting .253 with four home runs and 44 RBIs in 60 games.[16]
