Brandon Robinson, known professionally as Brandon 'Scoop B' Robinson, is an independent American sportswriter, journalist, sports analyst, columnist, editor and podcast host.

He is an entertainment and sports writer and on-air personality most notably with CBS Sports Radio[1][2] and The Source magazine.[3] He hosted the CBS Sports Radio Show, Brown and Scoop,[4] was managing editor and columnist at Respect. magazine[5] and is currently a senior writer at Basketball Society, an independent outlet.[6]

Early life and education

As a child, he attended the Bruce Beck and Ian Eagle Sports Broadcasting Camp. He is an alum of Don Bosco Preparatory High School,[7] where he was sports editor of the Ironman newspaper.[8]

He completed his Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Eastern University[8] and graduated with a master's degree in journalism from Hofstra University.[9] He was sports editor of Eastern's Waltonian newspaper and public address announcer of Eastern's soccer, volleyball, basketball and lacrosse teams.[10] As a graduate student at Hofstra, he was a television sports anchor at Hofstra Today and WRHU radio and an intern at NBC News and MSNBC.

Career

At the age of 12, Robinson began his career co-hosting Nets Slammin' Planet,[9] with former New Jersey Nets player, Albert King and radio personality Evan Roberts. The show was broadcast on the now-defunct Radio AAHS (later AAHS World Radio)[11] and was featured on NBA Inside Stuff.[12]

Robinson was a regular writing contributor to sports and entertainment magazines such as Regal Sports Radio's D & Davis Show,[13] Slam magazine,[14] The Source,[15] Billboard,[16] CBS Local Sports,[17] Respect.,[18] Vibe,[19] Jet,[20] Ebony.[21]

After college, he curated daily content on Envy the DJ, website of DJ Envy, host of nationally syndicated radio show, The Breakfast Club. [22]

He's appeared regularly as a sports contributor on television and radio programming including Sirius XM radio[23] Arise News,[24] Complex[25] ESPN.[26]

The Source magazine

At The Source, he notably covered Adam Silver's banning of former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald T. Sterling.[27][28]

In 9 days, he crowdfunded $2,370 through GoFundMe to fly to New Orleans to cover the 2014 NBA All Star Game after The Source refused to cover his travel costs. [29]

Arise News

Robinson covered topical issues in U.S. sports like the death of ESPN's Stuart Scott[30] and Ray Rice's domestic violence suspension by the NFL.[31]

CBS

Hosted Brown and Scoop, was a columnist at CBS Local Sports and CBS Sports Radio[32] & a contributor to CBS This Morning.[33] His reporting has been the source of several major sports stories like Kobe Bryant[34] and his rifts with former Los Angeles Lakers teammates. Ben Carson[35] also opened up to Robinson about his issues with dishonest journalists. Robinson's reporting has been seen on media television shows such as TMZ Sports.[36][37][38]

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban shared with Robinson that the Mavericks paid Dirk Nowitzki more than he asked for during NBA's free agency in 2016.[39]

Scoop B Radio

In April 2016, Brandon 'Scoop B' Robinson and DJ Manny El launched independently produced, Scoop B Radio.[40] Scoop B Radio is an interview-based sports and entertainment podcast.

Notable guests on Scoop B Radio have included Pete Sampras, Gloria Allred and Allen Iverson.

The show was downloaded over 2 million times in 2017[41] and has become popular because of controversial topics discussed.

Retired NBA players, Kenyon Martin and Tim Thomas re-lived their decade long feud on Scoop B Radio after Thomas and rapper 50 Cent[42] suggested that the two set up a charity boxing match with boxer Floyd Mayweather as the promoter and proceeds going to a charity of their choosing. Martin declined.[43][44]

Too Short told Scoop B Radio that Jay-Z sampled his "Blow The Whistle" song in 2010 to recruit LeBron James to join the New Jersey Nets.[45]

NBA on TNT's Kenny Smith told Scoop B Radio that the 1994 Houston Rockets would have beaten Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls had they faced each other in the NBA Finals.[46] NBA on TNT's Rosalyn Gold-Onwude shared how she and rapper Drake, her date at the 2017 NBA Awards, became good friends.[47]

Boxer Claressa Shields shared with Scoop B Radio that childhood hero, Serena Williams ignored her at the Olympics and as a result, she decided to block the tennis legend on Instagram.[48]

Charles Barkley told Scoop B Radio that if he ruled the world for one day, he would get rid of both Republicans and Democrats because "they’re both awful"[49] and said that he and Shaquille O'Neal "fought like girls" in 1999 when the two got into an on-court fight during their playing careers.[50]

Retired Golden State Warriors forward Matt Barnes recounted driving 95 miles to fight former Los Angeles Lakers teammate and former Dancing with the Stars participant Derek Fisher after finding out that Fisher was in the home with Barnes and his ex-wife, Gloria Govan.[51] Barnes told Scoop B Radio "I’m gonna do what a man’s gonna do," and stated that he garnered support from entertainers and athletes who believe Barnes handled the situation with his ex wife and Fisher the correct way.[52]

RESPECT magazine

As managing editor and columnist of Respect. magazine,[5] his writing tackled the intersection of sports, entertainment, lifestyle and politics. He's written about media's fascination with O.J. Simpson and Donald Trump.[53]

Basketball Society

He was named senior writer of Basketball Society, March 2018.[6][54][55]

On Sept. 17, 2018, he reported a source was adamant that Kevin Durant was headed to the LA Lakers the following season to team up with LeBron James and eventually take over the team [56]. He previously made waves by reporting Kobe Bryant had interest in playing in the Big 3 in 2019, a report which was quickly refuted by Bryant's team[57].

Robinson accurately predicted that LeBron James would join the Los Angeles Lakers during NBA free agency, summer 2018.[58][59][60][61]

He reported that Kobe Bryant would play in Ice Cube & Jeff Kwatinetz's BIG3. [62]

Personal

Robinson's interest in sports began in the 90s, while working in his family's shoe business, Men’s Walker[63] [64] in Harlem, New York City.[65]

He was diagnosed with alopecia areata in 2016.[66]
