Boston.com is a regional website that offers news and information about the Boston, Massachusetts region.[2] It is owned and operated by Boston Globe Media Partners, the publisher of The Boston Globe.[3]

Boston.com was one of the first news websites on the public web, launched in late October 1995 by Boston Globe Electronic Publishing Inc. The domain name was purchased from the Boston-area cafe chain Au Bon Pain in exchange for print advertisements for charities chosen by Au Bon Pain's CEO.[4]

Since its inception, Boston.com has covered a wide range of stories of interest to people in the region. It was the primary website of The Boston Globe until late 2011.

Boston.com currently covers local, national, and international news, professional sports, weather, traffic, entertainment, and lifestyle.

The site also maintains a mobile application for iPhone and Android devices. It connects readers with stories featured on the website.[5][6]

Relation to The Boston Globe

On September 12, 2011, the Boston Globe launched a separate site at BostonGlobe.com that put most content from its newsroom behind a paywall.[7] Since that time, Boston.com has been a separate, standalone entity providing coverage of local news, sports, weather, and leisure on a free, advertising-supported platform. The two media outlets share office space at 1 Exchange Place in downtown Boston[8].

Boston.com Editorial Staff

The site is led by Kaitlyn Johnston, editor; John Waller, news editor; Gary Dzen, sports editor; and Alison Goldman, lifestyle editor. Reporters include Hayden Bird, Nik DeCosta-Klipa, Dialynn Dwyer, Christopher Gavin, Arianna MacNeill, Kristi Palma, Kevin Slane, and Nicole Yang.[9] Chad Finn, whose work is also published by The Boston Globe, is a regular sports columnist for the site.[10]

Love Letters is The Boston Globe’s advice column, which is hosted by Boston.com and written by Meredith Goldstein. It debuted on Boston.com on January 22, 2009.

The column inspired the 2018 memoir, “Can’t Help Myself: Lessons and Confessions from a Modern Advice Columnist,” from Grand Central Publishing. Love Letters runs online Monday to Friday and in the print newspaper each week.

Realestate.Boston.com is a regional website that offers advice on buying, selling, home improvement, and design with expert advice, insider neighborhood knowledge, the latest listings to buy or rent, and a window on the world of luxury living. The site's editor is Eileen Woods.
