Birgit Fladager is the current incumbent District Attorney of Stanislaus County, California. She was elected in June, 2006 and re-elected in 2010 and 2014.
Career
Birgit Fladager is the first elected female district attorney of Stanislaus County, California.[1] One of Fladager's earliest national appearances was on an episode of Forensic Files about the murder of a teenage girl by her stepfather Douglas Mouser.[2] Fladager was the deputy district attorney on the Douglas Mouser case and helped convict him.[2]
Fladager made national headlines as one of the attorneys on prosecution team for Scott Peterson, who was convicted in 2004 for murdering his pregnant wife, Laci Peterson.[3][4][5] Fladager was later in the news again for not retrying corruption charages against the Modesto mayor Carmen Sabatino (in 2006)[6] and retrying Greg Souliotes for arson in 2013 (the arson case took 16 years to get to that point).[7] Fladager was involved in the Aruna Chopra case which was noted for its circus like atmosphere.[8][9]
Fladagar endured false retaliation claims against her alleged by defense attorney Douglas Maner (Fladager's former employee).[10] In 2018, there was controversy about an admission that Fladager made regarding her works in the DA's office.[11] while years earlier she also had a similar controversy due to her initiated boycotts of certain judges[12]
Electoral history
Stanislaus County, California District Attorney
In 2018 it was announced that Patrick Kolasinski would challenge Fladager in the District Attorney race.[13]. In her bid for her forth term,[14] Fladager is supported by the Modesto Police due to her work with them over the years.[15]. Fladager has been known throughout her later career to have a 'ground zero' approach to car thieves.[16]
Fladager recently was elected as the President of the Assembly Appropriations Committee[17][18]
