Bird Box is an upcoming American post-apocalyptic horror film directed by Susanne Bier and written by Eric Heisserer, based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Josh Malerman. The film stars Sandra Bullock, Sarah Paulson, Rosa Salazar, Danielle Macdonald, John Malkovich, Trevante Rhodes, Jacki Weaver, Machine Gun Kelly, Lil Rel Howery, David Dastmalchian, Amy Gumenick and Julian Edwards.

It will have its world premiere at AFI Fest on November 12, 2018. The film is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2018 by Netflix.

Cast

Production

Film rights to Bird Box were optioned by Universal Studios in 2013, prior to the book's release.[2][3] Scott Stuber and Chris Morgan were set to produce the film, with Mama director Andy Muschietti attached as director.[3] Screenwriter Eric Heisserer was in negotiations to pen the script.[4] In July 2017, Netflix acquired the rights to the book after Stuber became head of the feature film division of Netflix and will develop the movie with Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich starring.[5][6] Susanne Bier was announced as the director.[5] In October 2017, Danielle Macdonald, Trevante Rhodes, Jacki Weaver, Sarah Paulson, Rosa Salazar, Lil Rel Howery, and Amy Gumenick joined the cast.[7][8] In November 2017, Machine Gun Kelly and David Dastmalchian joined the cast.[9][10]

Filming

Principal photography began in October 2017.[11]

Release

It will have its world premiere at AFI Fest on November 12, 2018.[12] The film is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2018.[13]
