Indexing

Biology Open is abstracted and/or indexed (amongst others) by: Biological Abstracts, CAB Abstracts, Chemical Abstracts, Thomson ISI, PubMed Central and Scopus. BiO’s publisher is a member of OASPA (the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association) and the journal is indexed in the DOAJ (the Directory of Open Access Journals).

Publisher

Biology Open is published by The Company of Biologists, a UK not-for-profit publisher of the international biological journals Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology and Disease Models & Mechanisms.

History

The Company of Biologists looked to address some big issues in publishing through the launch of its new journal Biology Open.[1] The Company saw that some authors had a problem finding homes for papers that were sound, but lacked perceived impact. BiO was also launched with the aims of rapid publication for scientifically sound observations and to reduce reviewer fatigue in the community.

BiO was launched in July 2012,[2] including an editorial about the launch of the journal.[3] The first issue went live in January 2012. The Editor in Chief is Jordan Raff.
