William Smalley, known as Bill Smalley, (1864 – 1912) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Stoke.[1]
Career
Bill Smalley was on the books of Preston North End but had not played for the latter' first–team. When Stoke went to Deepdale, the home of Preston North End on 6 October 1888 they went missing two players (Or they left Stoke but did not arrive). Preston North End lent them Alfred Dempsey and Bill Smalley, the latter, making his League debut at inside–forward. The visitors were overwhelmed in a 7–0 defeat and Smalley never played first–team football again. Bill Smalley' brother Robert Smalley played in goal for Everton.[1][2]
