Big Mother Gig is an alternative rock band based in Los Angeles, CA founded by Richard Jankovich.[1]

While attending Marquette University in Milwaukee in the 1990s, Richard Jankovich formed Big Mother Gig.[2] From 1992 to 1996, Big Mother Gig released two albums and one EP and played over 150 concerts around the Midwest before breaking up when Jankovich moved to New York City.[2] The final line-up of the band featured Jankovich along with Riz Rashid, Matt Deede and Brady Roehl.[2] Prior members include Rob Due, Jason Borkowicz, Charles Watson, Brian Rutkowski and Joe Neumann.[3]

In 2016, Big Mother Gig released their discography digitally for the first time and announced a new EP,[4] as well as a reunion show in Milwaukee.[5] Almost Primed, their first new music in over 20 years, was released in March 2017.[4] The band continued to drop a series of singles through 2017 and 2018 including "Nametag",[6] "The Great Heist",[7] "(Let's Make) Compelling Content",[8] and "Obliterate".[9] Now based in Los Angeles,[2] Big Mother Gig has played shows around the Midwest and California with Luna,[10] Soccer Mommy,[11] Gin Blossoms,[12], Peelander-Z,[13] and many more.

Their post-reunion work has been praised by Alternative Press, Paste, Under The Radar, New Noise, Impose, AllThingsGo, Substream, and PureGrainAudio.[14] "(Let's Make) Compelling Content" was Song Of The Day on NPR/The Current and appeared twice on the Submodern Radio Chart.[14] The music video for "Obliterate" stars Michael Ornstein from Sons Of Anarchy.[15] Their recent recordings were recorded with Jeff Hamilton (Violent Femmes) and Dan Long (Spiral Stairs), and mastered by Kramer.[16]
