Bhutni is an island[1] in Malda district of West Bengal, India. The island is part of the Manikchak community development block and is surrounded by Ganga River and Fulhar river.[2]
Geography
The Bhutni island is located at 25°07′51″N 87°52′15″E / 25.1307°N 87.8709°E. Bhutni is an island fully bounded by river Ganges and Fulahar river. It consists 3 gram panchayets among total 7 gram panchayets of Manikchak Block.
Demographics
Bhutni island consist of three gram panchayats of Manikchak block. The gram panchayats are Dakshin Chandipur, Uttar Chandipur, Hiranandapur. As per 2011 Census of India Bhutni island had a total population of 89021 of which 46052 are males while 42969 are females. Scheduled Castes numbered are 30149 and Scheduled Tribes numbered are 33063.[3]
There are approximately 63 villages in bhutni. Total 3 High schools, 1 Senior madrasha, 1 Govt. Sponsored Library, 5 post offices, 4 Commercial Banks, One Rural Hospital are there in this island. The only medium of going this area is boat but a 1.8 Kilometre Long Bridge is under construction. This will be opened for public from 2019. Bridge is funded by North Bengal Development Board, Government of West Bengal .
