Bhaskar Roy, (born 1960) is an Indian journalist. He is the Editor in Chief of The Equator Line a themed quarterly magazine exploring long-form journalism in India. He also heads Palimpsest, the group's publishing arm.

Education and Work

Born in 24 Parganas, West Bengal, Roy read English Literature at the University of Calcutta for a master’s degree. His novel, An Escape into Silence(New Century, 2002)[1] is set in the backdrop of the Naxalite movement that swept across West Bengal in 1970-71.

Career

Among the publications he previously worked for are India Today,[2] Indian Express[3] and The Times of India.[3] IIC Quarterly, the journal of the India International Centre, published a number of his papers. 'Paradoxes of Dalit Politics in Uttar Pradesh’ was the first of the series published in the journal during 2002-2004.[3] His essay, ‘Cricket’s Social Subtext’ forms part of an anthology, India: A National Culture (SAGE Publications Pvt. Ltd., 2003).

In a Special Report in India Today in 1989, Roy highlighted the growing importance of the so-called fringe political outfits in national politics.
