The Bharat Ratna Dr. The Babasaheb Ambedkar Stadium (Marathi: भारतरत्न डॉ. बाबासाहेब आंबेडकर स्टेडीयम) is a cricket stadium in Baramati, Pune district, Maharashtra, India. The stadium grounds are 28,844 square meters area and it is bigger than Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. Maharashtra association vs Mumbai association was the first T20 match at this stadium.[1][2][3]

History

The work of this stadium has been completed by the efforts of former Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar. The stadium started to be built in the year of in 1991, Babasaheb Ambedkar's birth centenary (100th Ambedkar Jayanti). In 2016, Dr. Ambedkar's Silver Jubilee Celebration (125th Ambedkar Jayanti) was inaugurated on the eve of the stadium. The inauguration ceremony of the stadium was officiated by cricket player, Sachin Tendulkar on April 6, 2016. Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Wasim Jaffer, Amol Muzumdar, Ajit Agarkar, Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule were all present at the ceremony. This time the exhibition match was played between the Mumbai Cricket Association team against the Maharashtra Cricket Association team. Special attention has been given to be available for national-international matches. Work started under the supervision of Mumbai Cricket Association's Nadeem Memon. The lawn has been brought from South Africa for this stadium.[4][5][6]

Structure

This cricket ground is set up on 28 thousand 844 square meters area and it has made 8 pitches for cricket fans. Two pitches have been made for the match at the main stadium. At the ground, there are 14 Practice Wicket Centers, 10 wicket pitch at the stadium with two pitches. The green cover from New Zealand has been introduced on the field. These places will be held internationally, so the chairs have been set up for 22 thousand spectators. The rest of the gallery, the pavilion and other works were done through the municipality. There are VIP rooms, gymnasiums, and all-weather stadium galleries.[7][8][9]
