Bernard Roizman is an American scientist born in Romania. He is the Joseph Regenstein Distinguished Service Professor of Virology in the Departments of Molecular Genetics & Cell Biology, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, and in Microbiology. of Biological Sciences, at the University of Chicago.

Education

Bernard Roizman received his B.A. and M.S. from Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and subsequently attended the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health where he received his Sc.D.

Career

Roizman is Joseph Regenstein Distinguished Service Professor of Virology in the Departments of Molecular Genetics & Cell Biology. He is also a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, and in Microbiology.

Fraud

In 1999, Roizman was sued by a former PhD student and researcher for defrauding her, including lying that the herpes simplex virus technologies she developed were not patentable, secretly patenting those technologies, failing to credit her for them, and depriving her of royalties relating to them.[1] This case is considered a seminal victory for student researchers.[2]
