Berachampa Deulia Uchcha Vidyalaya (BDUV) is a high school located in Berachampa, West Bengal, India. It offers classes from upper primary to higher secondary.[2][3][4] One of the oldest schools in the area, it has been run by the government since January 2, 1948. Currently, more than 2,300 students are attending the school. Formerly a boys' school in status, after the madhyamik standard, it was declared as a co-educational school.

History

The school was originally called the Deulia M.E. School and then renamed to Sir Stanley Jackson Uttam Vidyamandir School, after Stanley Jackson who was the Governor of West Bengal from 1927 to 1932. The Indian government later took over the school and gave its current name.

Campus

The school has two floors. The ground floor contains the headmaster's office, staff room, computer room, and main hall in the front wing of the building. The right wing holds a chemistry laboratory, classrooms, and restrooms. The left wing of the building contains a common room and further classrooms. The second floor houses more classrooms in the front and right wings and a grand hall in the left wing. A library and physics and biology laboratories are found at the rear of the building on the second floor.

The campus contains a small field enclosed by three walls from the building with one side left open for entry. This school is notorious for its record in violence. As it doesn't have girl students, pupils are very aggressive and violent to women. Its record in discipline is also very poor.

Transportation

The school is situated beside Haroa Road and is well-accessed by railway and bus routes. Buses from Kolkata to Baduria, Basirhat, Najat, Hasnabad, etc., pass through Berachampa. The nearest rail station is on Harua Road, a part of the SealdahHasnabad division of the Eastern Railway.

There is also a school magazine, titled Bihan, that is published annually.

This school do not have any playground of its own. BDUV plays in an inter-school cricket and football tournament in Girl's school ground. Inter-class football tournaments also occur every August. Every February, an annual sports competition is also held.
