Benchmark Electronics Inc is an EMS, ODM, and OEM company[2] based in Angleton, TX in Greater Houston.[3] It provides contract manufacturing services.

History

Initially a subsidiary of Intermedics, a medical implant manufacturer, Benchmark was sold to Electronic Investors Corporation in 1986.[3]

The company made an IPO in 1990.[3]

In 2007 Benchmark Electronics acquired Pemstar Inc, a contract manufacturer.[3]

Smaller than rivals, including Flextronics and Foxconn, as of 2010 Benchmark may be increasingly seeking to move away from traditional, computing-related EMS products to more-profitable ones like medical devices.[3]

In December 2011, founder and chairman Cary Fu promoted Gayla Delly to CEO in December 2011.

On September 16, 2016, Benchmark named Paul J. Tufano president and chief executive officer, effective immediately. He replaced Gayla Delly, who had been with Benchmark since 1996.[4]

Customers

Benchmark Electronics's customers have included Sun Microsystems, Medtronic, EMC Corporation, iRobot,[5] and Silicon Graphics.[6]

Products

While more mundane computing-related products make up the majority of its manufactures as of 2008, the company also makes telecommunications equipment and medical devices.[3] Benchmark has also expended their business into Precision Technologies, providing extensive precision mechanical manufacturing capabilities. [7]

Production bases and facilities

Benchmark Electronics has operations in ten countries.[8]

The company has production bases in Almelo, Netherlands;[8] Angleton, TX;[8] Bangkok, Thailand;[8] Brasov, Romania;[8] Guadalajara, Mexico;[8] Tijuana, Mexico; Huntsville, AL;[8] Penang, Malaysia;[9] Nashua, NH;[10] Singapore;[8] Suzhou, China.;[8] and Winona & Rochester, MN.[8]
