Ben Rich is a British meteorologist and BBC Weather forecaster.

Early life

Ben Rich was born in Plymouth and grew up in rural Devon. At school Rich gave classmates and teachers daily weather forecasts, using hand-drawn maps and stick-on symbols.[1]

Rich studied for a degree in Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton, and then completed an MA in Broadcast Journalism at University College Falmouth.[1][2]

Career

Rich worked as a newsreader for a short time and was then a reporter for local radio stations in Bristol and Manchester. He became a weather presenter for BBC's Midlands Today in Birmingham in 2009, providing daily weather forecasts and presented regional TV news bulletins. He also produced feature reports on subjects such as the politics of climate change and the impact of weather on local food production.[1]

In 2012 Rich joined the Met Office team at the BBC Weather Centre and spent a year presenting national and global forecasts. In 2013 he was part of the team of presenters at BBC Sport's Wimbledon coverage. In late 2013 he moved to the Met Office College in Exeter for a year-long intensive training course and is now a qualified meteorologist. He broadcasts at the BBC and also provides forecasts for RAF pilots.[1]

Personal life

Rich enjoys cinema, theatre and live comedy and attends the Edinburgh Festival Fringe each summer. He enjoys dining out and also going to the gym. He has visited Berlin eight times.[1] At his Twitter account he describes himself as "Lover of coffee, cocktails, travel, music, theatre, comedy and cinema."[3]
