Beddit is a Finnish based technology and healthcare company that makes sleep-tracking devices and a sleep-tracking app to help monitor sleep.[2][3] The company was founded in 2007 and was acquired by Apple on May 9, 2017.

As of 2016, Beddit has collected over 3 million nights of sleep data from its users.[4]

History

Beddit was founded in 2007 by Lasse Leppäkorpi.[3] Beddit originally did basic monitoring in hospitals by tracking the heart rate and breathing of patients. Beddit released their first sleep-tracker in November 2013 for early backers after a successful crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo, where crowd-funders raised over $500,000.[4][5][6]

Misfit's Shine fitness tracker announced support for Beddit's sleep-trackers as part of a partnership between the two companies in July 2014.[7] Beddit's sleep-tracking app was released for the Apple Watch in October 2015.[8] Beddit released their latest sleep-tracker Beddit 3 on October 4, 2016 at select Apple Stores, on Amazon and on Beddit's website.[9] On May 9, 2017, Apple Inc. acquired Beddit for an undisclosed amount.[10] Beddit stopped selling their latest sleep-tracking device Beddit 3 in online retail stores and in physical retail stores starting in 2017 and only sells Beddit 3 on Apple's website.[11]

In September 2018, Beddit announced via an App Store update that their cloud service will shut down on November 15, 2018 for existing users and that new users will not be able to access its cloud service starting with the update.[12]
