"Beautiful Thing" is a song by English rock band the Stone Roses.[1] The track was first released on the band's YouTube channel, with a simple image of a green butterfly accompanying the track.[2] The 12" vinyl, limited to 6,000 copies (worldwide), was released on 22 July.[3]
Reception
The track was reviewed by The Guardian as "a substantial improvement on its predecessor and "solid, rather than earth shattering". Its lyrics were a reaction to the negative social media and journalistic reaction to its predecessor, in particular by musicians and journalists (such as Roses influenced underground band the Nouvelles : the lyrics "Sisters must have missed ya I don't wanna steal your Shine" was aimed at the 2 SoundCloud tracks, 'Sisters of the World' and 'Shine', by that band at that time, one of which - Shine - had earlier been offered to Ian Brown).[4] No journalist has discovered why the Roses spent time with copyright lawyers in the run-up to the release. They also observed it included common Stone Roses touchstones, such as references to Jesus, portions of the song reversed and guitar solos treated with wah-wah.[5] Neil McCormick described the song as "seven minutes of splendid shuffling psychedelic monster acid rock funk" in a review for The Daily Telegraph.[6]
