History

Construction of rail networks in Beaufort have started since 1896,[1] with the first construction of minor station started at the Bakau River on the north east.[2] Another minor station was constructed at the bank of Padas River in south Beaufort on 1898.[2] The main station in the town centre (which is the present station) was completed in 1903.[3] Full operation service of the North Borneo Railway was launched on 1 August 1914.

In 2007, the station was closed for renovation works with the station building which is originally built from wood are demolished and replaced with a new concrete building. The present station began its operation on 21 February 2011. During the 2015 East Malaysian floods, the station was severely flooded.[4] In 2016, new railbus was introduced,[5] along with new diesel multiple unit (DMUs) from India for use in the Beaufort–Tenom lines.[6]
