Bastab Deodhai Phukan (Assamese: বাস্তৱ দেওধাই ফুকন), real name Srimanta Phukan, was the chief of ULFA’s Enigma Force and also a commander of the group's 28th battalion.[1][2] He joined the group in 1988. He was also said to be holding the additional charge of Finance portfolio for the Sibsagar district.[2]

Arrest

On August 2, 2004, the Assam Police nabbed Phukan along with another of his colleagues Dulal Baruah from Nopam Mising village under Gaurisagar Police Station of Sibsagar.[1][2] They were nabbed after they succeeded in escaping from a security operation in Khonamukh area under the same police station in the wee hours of August 1.[2]
