Barrio Planta Project is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established to provide free access to English language education, arts, communication and job-training to the residents of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.[1][2] There is no charge to attend the program. Originally set up to serve the low-income La Planta neighborhood of San Juan del Sur, as of 2013, it had grown to include students from nearby towns.[3][4]

Accomplishments

In 2011, Barrio la Planta Project provided funding for educational classes and programs for approximately 250 children, and other educational services to almost 200 other family members.[5]

Projects have included teaching local children how to surf, hip hop workshops, and a 2013 breakdancing video, "Listen Up Adults" promoting the value of creativity.[6][7][8] A girls' basketball league, "Las Poderosas" ("the powerful females") also conducts education on "fitness, health and hygiene."[3]
