Barisal Engineering College (BEC) is a public undergraduate college in Barisal Bangladesh, established in 2017. It is located in Charkolai in the Barisal District, and is affiliated with University of Dhaka under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. The college has two departments: the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and the Civil Engineering (CE) Division. A total of 120 students will be admitted in every division of 60 academics per academic session. The college has residential buildings for teachers and employees with an administrative building, four academic buildings, a 400-seat hostel, and a 100-seat hostel.[1]

History

The Bangladesh government fund is being constructed at a cost of around 1.1 billion taka (13.1 million USD) in Engineering College.

According to Kamrul Islam, Assistant Engineer in the Department of Education, Barisal Zone, a meeting of the advisory council of the then-caretaker government was held at Barisal Circuit House. At this meeting it was decided by the advisory council that an engineering college should be set up in Barisal. However, progress did not start until the 'Development Project Sarpatha-DPP' was launched.

Later, Barrishal-Bhola Highway received approval of a DPP of 88.11 million taka for implementing the project 'Barisal Engineering College' on 6 acres of land in Charakoya union of Sadar Upazila.

Then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of this college. Originally, the project was supposed to be implemented in the current fiscal year, but this was not achieved due to various complications.

The approval of the revised DPP ECNEC has currently been obtained. According to the revised DPP, the project cost was increased to 91 crore 54 lakh taka.

According to Jahangir Alam, Executive Engineer in the Department of Education, Barisal Zone, about 82 percent of the construction of the project area has already been completed. This includes two hostels and a hostel structure, including administrative buildings, civil engineering buildings, computer buildings, naval architectural buildings, libraries, and a cafeteria.

Students of Barisal Engineering College will be admitted in civil and computer science. However, in the near future, there are plans for admission of teachers according to the decision of the college authorities in the matter of recruitment of teachers including infrastructure facilities.
