Barefoot Theatre Company

The Barefoot Theatre Company is a theatre company in New York City.

In 1999, Barefoot Theatre Company was founded by a multicultural group of artists determined to produce vital, thought-provoking works, both new and existing. We embrace the importance of the collaborative process, nurture our ensemble commitment, and continue to learn from the younger generations we mentor.

Led by actor Francisco Solorzano, the BAREFOOT THEATRE COMPANY is now in its 17th season, developing theater and film (via sister co. Barefoot Studio Pictures) in New York and LA. Recent collaborations with award-winning writers include, Mary Gallagher, Jose Rivera, Jesse Eisenberg, Jennifer Skura, Kristoffer Diaz, Mike Reiss, Joe Pintuaro, Lyle Kessler, Amina Henry, Ben Snyder, Adam Szymkowicz, Mark Borkowski and actors Gina Gershon, Bobby Cannavale, Mark Ruffalo, Ethan Hawke, Chris Cooper, Michael Stuhlbarg, Annabella Sciorra, John Doman, Austin Pendleton, Richard Kind, Mickey Sumner, Anna Chlumksy, Lynn Cohen, Tala Ashe, Caitlin FitzGerald, Alfredo Narciso, to name a few. Recent productions Off-Broadway include the premieres of TEETH OF THE SONS, a stage adaptation of the film DOG DAY AFTERNOON and the NYC Revival of Joe Pintauro’s RAFT OF THE MEDUSA. First film project via Barefoot Studio Pictures starring Anna Chlumsky, Lynn Cohen, Christopher Whalen; directed by Francisco Solorzano was the recipient of several awards including Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Actress (Chlumsky), and many others at some of the top Film Festivals. Currently in post production: A short film written and directed by Caitlin FitzGerald; A Northern Star written and directed by Francisco Solorzano starring Lynn Cohen and the Barefoot Theatre Co. Ensemble.

Founded by a small group of Ensemble Members from New York City's critically acclaimed Barefoot Theatre Company, Barefoot Studio Pictures is an LA & NYC based independent company dedicated to the production and development of feature, short and viral films. Reminiscent of the gritty, visceral and character driven pictures from the late 60's and early 70's era, we explore stories from a truthful place that ignite passion, incite laughter, and provoke discussion. As bold, commanding and powerful as its theatrical partner, Barefoot Studio Pictures promises to take artistic risks to bring a memorable cinematic experience to life.

Completed Debut Short Film: Floating Sunflowers written by Jason Furlani and directed by Francisco Solorzano, The Girl With The Jacket written and directed by Caitlin FitzGerald and A Northern Star written and directed by Francisco Solorzano.

Past productions have included the first stage adaptation of Sidney Lumet's Dog Day Afternoon in 2008,[1] and a revival of Lanford Wilson's Balm in Gilead in 2005.[2]

Francisco Solorzano is artistic director; Victoria Malvagno is managing director. Christopher Whalen is Producing Director.[3]
