Coming from a musically-oriented family, his father, Bang Dae-sik is well-known for his songs in commercials and animated shows such as Name Card and Dried Fruit.[3] His mother, Jung Mi Young is well known for singing soundtracks in korean drama Friends and film After the Show Ends.[4] His uncle Bang Byung-seok is well-known as a composer and director in the commercial film industry.[5]

2012-13: Kpop Star 2

In August 2012, Ye-dam auditioned for SBS reality survival program K-pop Star Season 2. Upon hearing Ye-dam's vocals during the first round, Judge BoA complimented his vocals by comparing to a young Michael Jackson, further explaining when he hit the crescendo and high notes that the resemblance was all the more evident.[6] Judge Park Jin-young praised the 10 year old's sense of rhythm and tone mentioning it was not rustic and how he was aware when to emphasise and be flexible with the rhythm. Judge Yang Hyun-suk mentioned his voice could reach the soul of the audience further adding how his vocal is attractive and pleasing to the ear.[7] He placed runner up behind first place sibling duo Akdong Musician.[8]

After receiving profound love from the general public, in June 2013, Yang Hyun-suk confirmed Ye-dam has signed an exclusive contract with YG Entertainment. In result, both first and second place winners of K-Pop Star Season 2 are now under YG Entertainment.[9]

Later in the year, Ye-dam made an appearance on WIN: Who is Next with YG artists Lee Hi and Akdong Musician, marking his first tv show appearance after the end of K-Pop Star Season 2. The four had a collaboration stage during the final episode of the survival program covering the song Officially Missing You.[10]

2014-present: Prior Debut

In September 2018, YG Entertainment confirmed Ye-dam will participate in an upcoming survival program which is set to air roughly around November within the same year. The show is said to air exclusively under Naver. Also joining Ye-dam is fellow K-pop Star alumni Choi Raesung.[11]
