BSS Industrial is a British specialist distributor of heating, ventilation, pipeline and mechanical services equipment based in Leicester. The business was previously part of The BSS Group plc, until that group's acquisition by Travis Perkins in December 2010.

History

The company was founded in the East Midlands 1899, as British Steam Specialties.[1]

High profile acquisitions included Pegler & Louden (a specialist valve distributor) in December 2003. Other acquisitions by The BSS Group plc included UBM Cadel (rebranded as PTS) in 1999, Price Tools in March 2006, Buck & Hickman in April 2007, Birchwood Products in March 2008, Direct Heating Spares in April 2009 and UGS – a privately owned underground drainage merchant purchased, in February 2010.

The BSS board accepted an indicative £553 million takeover offer from Travis Perkins on 28 May 2010,[2] an acquisition which was completed on 14 December 2010, as BSS Group shares were delisted from the London Stock Exchange.[3]

Operations

BSS Industrial is a market leader in the United Kingdom, as a supply of pipeline, process, heating and mechanical services equipment. Its customers range from large national contractors to small, local independents. Its primary route to market is via a nationwide network of sixty three branches.[4]

This infrastructure is supported by a central warehouse at Lutterworth in The Midlands, and a purpose built tube distribution centre in Coventry. The business also contains a member of specialist divisions, servicing the industrial end user market.
