Azath Salley

Azath Salley is a Sri Lankan politician.

He is former Deputy mayor of Colombo, and founder and leader of the Muslim Tamil National Alliance (MTNA).[1] The MTNA is an Islamic political party that advocates Tamil-Muslim political dialogue in the country.[2]

In May 2013, Salley was arrested and later released by the Sri Lankan Forces under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) for allegedly advocating violence on the part of Muslim youth.[3] [4] A report suggested that his arrest was connected with his allegations of anti-Muslim racism propagated by the state.[2]
