Axel Music was an entertainment retail chain based in Denmark, with warehouses and distribution centres in Canada, United States, France, and Germany. It maintained online websites for customers worldwide. On 18 June 2012, the company announced its bankruptcy.[1]

History

Axel Music was formed in 1992 in downtown Copenhagen and over the intervening years opened 14 stores in Denmark. In February 2001 the company formed Lake Shore Distribution in Canada and launched Axelmusic.com. In April 2006 it was one of the first online stores to offer HD DVD, followed by Blu-ray in June of that year.[2] By 2009 it operated a network of warehouses to fulfill orders taken on its internet sites and 8 separate locations throughout Denmark for its Danish customers. PlanetAxel went bankrupt on 18 June 2012.
